John Murphy
John was raised in the Crestwood section of Yonkers, NY. He is the youngest of seven children. John; like all of his siblings at one time or another; followed their father’s footsteps into the insurance industry. James C Murphy Sr. was a successful Allstate Agent for 33 years.
After Graduating from Belmont Abbey College John began his business career as a Project Leader in Production Control for IIT Avionics. He oversaw the building of Counter Measure Radar Systems for the B52 Bomber. It became apparent at the end of the 80’s that defense spending was to be curtailed so in 1989 John accepted an offer from Allstate Ins to become the third Allstate Agent in his family. After 11 successful years John accepted a Management position with Travelers Insurance while pursuing a Masters degree in Organizational Leadership at Mercy College. After 5 years with Travelers and receiving his MS with Distinction; John returned once again to Sales. He accepted a Production Manager position at Gloron Agency in downtown Manhattan. After 4 years he accepted the same position at Select Insurance Agency in Tuckahoe, NY; located just a mile from his home. John joined Meridian in 2011 to focus solely on face-to face Client Selling.
A good friend and fraternity brother introduced John to his wife Cathy. They were married in 1989 and are now the proud parents of two wonderful children; Jack, 13 and Caroline 9 years old. Jack is a travel soccer player, hockey player and drummer for an Irish music group. He competes locally and internationally in Ireland each summer. Caroline is a travel soccer player and cheerleader who loves singing, dance and music.
John is a Board Member, Committee Chair, Coach and Commissioner for Hillcrest Lakers Community Club, which is the largest children’s sports recreation club in Yonkers. John maintains close ties with his high school Fordham Prep. He lettered four years Varsity at the Prep in Ice Hockey. He then played two years Division 3 hockey for Lemoyne College before transferring to the South to help start his Father’s retirement cattle farm. He was a Varsity coach for Fordham Prep from 1995-2001 and in 1999 was one of the founding members of the Fordham Prep Hockey Alumni Association/ Hall Of Fame. He was inducted into the Hall Of Fame in 2004. When time permits; John is an avid outdoorsman and can be found in the woods and streams of Virginia, Maine and Upstate New York. He is also a member of the Yonkers Amateur Golf Association playing tournaments each Sunday morning from April till October.
John is proud of his 22 years in the Insurance Industry and the knowledge he has gained which enables him to build his client’s Insurance Programs. John expertise is in all Personal Lines policies and Main Street Business Package policies.
